Ramblings…

Last night I went for drive with my friend T out to the boonies to look at some houses. My boyfriend and I have recently decided that we wanted to be homeowners, and anything in our price range happens to be in the sticks. The word charming comes to mind. Never did I think me a city slicker ,would ever live in the sticks…but here I am considering it.

On our drive T and I were dicussing our jobs and I’m thinking that my job is oh-so-important because I am responsible for seniors getting their cheques (which for many, is their sole sorce of income) say “You know if I make one  error, when I am processing an application I can screw up a senior’s income for a month, I have all this power because people are dependent one me for their income.” To what she says “If I f*** up at work I could kill someone.” My ego is shot to shit, she is a nurse.

The problem with boyfriends…

Or mine in particular is that when they/he says they’re going to do something I expect him to do it. This weekend he says he is going to call me, does he know? NO!

This isn’t your typical living apart and dating situation.  We live together and he is in the navy so our phone time is a precious commodity as he only gets 15 minutes every 3 days or so. When he is alongside (ashore) he gets unlimited calling from his calling card from any pay phone. The phones that he uses out at sea are satellite phones. So he said he would call me this weekend and does he? No! Or so far not yet and it is 830 on a Sunday night. He has time to go drinking and golfing but not to call me for 5 min. I am not overly demanding an expect him to spend hours on the phone just 5 or 10 minutes would be nice. But when he is along side I would like to know he is thinking about me, longer than to write a quick email. I am thoroughly annoyed at this time. I have let him know when to call me, I have had my cell phone on and charged the whole weekend and even when I will be home should he want to call me, I have checked my email constantly, even from my cell phone and emailed him… and he is probably gaming or playing Xbox or whatever the hell he does that is keeping him from thinking about me.

At this point he doesn’t have a valid excuse in my mind he has phones on his ship, a cell phone, (which he never seems to have charged!) and pay phones etc. when we 1st started dating oh so long ago I remember when he would use a co-workers phone to call me if he couldn’t get signal on his. It was such a treat to here his voice. It’s great how times have changed and how near and dear to his heart I am, now that 5 years have gone by. It’s funny how we treat the ones we love the most the worst. I can attest to this myself. But I won’t. I am going to go watch Grey’s Anatomy on DVD in bed and try to nip this cold that seems to be coming on in the bud. And I am turning the ringer off on both phones!

This post shoulda came before the last…

***Note*** I am having some serious issues with my editing. … This was originally written on Monday June 18, 2007.

I certainly have a lot to blog about. Where to start? Right now I am super pissed off at parking ticket lady. I went into a video store for 30 seconds to one minute tops and I parked in a pay parking lot right next store and when I get out she is printing out a ticket! In the time it took me walk in, (30 feet from where I parked) go to my video selection and see that it was rented and walk back out, the bitch gives me a ticket? WTF? For all she knew I coulda been going to break a $20 for change for the damn parking meter! I am definitely going to dispute it! I was probably gone a total of 45 seconds. I am not exaggerating it wasn’t 5, 3 or even 2 minutes it was 1 minute or less! This is why I should really walk to this video store, but I drove because I had to hit the grocery store which is not within in walking distance unless I wanted to go for a long walk which I wasn’t up for.

What else? I sure have a list of pet peeves I am itching to bitch I mean blog about. How about the freaking slow ass drivers in this town? I sure I have bitched about this before, but if someone can’t drive the speed limit, then they shouldn’t be driving. I am tired of the construction hat has been going on for the last 3 weeks on my block. From end to end it is blocked off, half the time I have to wait for the city truck to move so I can get of of out parking lot, one time the construction workers completely ignore me while I am sitting at the entrance, waiting to exit the lot car in drive until I had to get out and ask them if they would let me out! And of course this would be on a day that I had an interview and trendy advertising agency that I would have loved to work at… I blame them for me not getting the job as I wasn’t able to arrive 5-10 min early that I like to for an interview; which wasn’t meant to be… In other amazing news, I GOT A NEW JOB!

As of today, I now work for the Government of Canada! I am doing Pension and Old Age Security. Pretty much I will be processing applications aka I am a paper pusher, not that I mind in the slightest. It couldn’t have come at a better time either. I was just about ready to give my 2 weeks notice at my current job because I couldn’t stand it or the lack of organization. And then I come home last week 2 a wonderful message on my voicemail asking me if I could start on Monday. HELL YES I COULD! So after my first day I have a list of pros and cons in no particular order. Before I get to that I gotta say I trainer is character. She is a middle age 40-45 French Canadian with a heavy accent she doesn’t pronounce ‘h’ so if she were to say heavy it would be more like “eavy”. She is beyond clueless and has been there for 14 years, and the best part is the facial hair. She literally has whiskers in her chin region that were slightly prickly looking, not a stray hair either I am talking full on man whiskers! It that was me I would be getting electrolysis hair removal no matter what the cost!

 Pros:

-Good for growth with all the baby boomers retiring (THANK YOU BABY BOOMERS)

– Downtown so I can walk to work

-Pays well, do not think will be overly challenging-It’s a government job which means all stats and weekends off

– I get extended health care right away

– I was hired one level above entry level which means I don’t have to start in the mail room

Cons:

It’s a government job, which means I will soon be disgruntled, (it is a proven fact that government employee’s are disgruntled)

-It’s downtown in and amongst lots of stores with cute clothes on my direct route to and from work (doesn’t help the saving factor when my boyfriend and I have recently decided that we want to be homeowners)

-It will be redundant

The Pros do out list the cons. I am sure I will be able to add to this list. Portland was fun. I am happy that I got to see my boyfriend. He is sailing for 4 weeks, and I get 2 see him 3 out of 4 weekends so it won’t be nearly as hard on me as the last trip. Things are getting better here. I found an old high school friend on facebook, that happens to be living here too and I called her and we talked for over an hour and we are meeting up for coffee. I am connecting with so many ppl on facebook, way better than myspace. If haven’t signed up you really should. I have post I want to do about myspace vs. facebook but I will save that for another night. And when I am not feeling so lazy I will post some pics of my trip to Portland.

BTW if any one knows how to configure up my writing space so isn’t so wide please shed your wisdom, I have yet to figure it out.

Another day in the Life of ME!

Delurk, Delurk, Delurk! For love of God, if your reading this please drop a comment or 2 my way it will so feed my ego.  After my second day on the job, I still am quite happy. It as (I am dropping the H on purpose- so you can get the feel of my French Canadian trainer) so far been what most of my new jobs have been; seemingly easy and we are stuck in a training room all this week learning dry legislative policy so we will be able to process Old Age Security applications. Today I made the big mistake of not having any sort of caffeine this morning which was apparent as I was nodding off b4 our 1st break. I woke up at bright eyed bushy tailed and well rested (thanks to my new memory foam mattress pad) however; it was short lived… The 1st thing I did was hit up Starbucks on my lunch, so I could feign alertness while attempting to digest whatever policy my clueless trainer attempted to teach us. She is sweet and competent for the most part but doesn’t have a clue. When we are doing a quiz her Q & A’s are different than what we have, she isn’t up to date or 100% sure on the most recent changes to what is an acceptable form of proof of residency… and the stubble, my GOD the stubble. I am beginning to wonder is s/he was formerly a he! I had to get close up to her and mustache stubble is visible. If it was fully grown, it would be a goatee, man I wish I could get a pic of that!

Here are a few more cons:

– Old Skool feel of the place (we are using Windows 2000 for crying out loud!)

-We have shiny new Toshiba flat screen monitors, with keyboards that are at least 10 years old and yellowing with age; this is the government!

-When I fill my prescriptions, I will need to pay outright and get my 80% reimbursement later… my previous employers would do it right then and there when I paid…

Me packing…

This is me in the middle of packing for Portland. I am off to meet my boyfriend in Portland on Friday and I am leaving tomorrow night after work. In the midst of me packing I have decided to randomly write a post. I don’t feel bad for my delinquency seeing that I don’t have an audience (yet…) If there are any silent readers out there, please send a comment my way it is good for my ego and will certainly inspire more posts.

I have been very busy for the last 6 weekends or so it seems I go to Vancouver every Friday after work to see my friend’s and family and of course the newest addition to my family. My niece! She is 5 weeks old and already 8 1/2 lbs and she is sure getting chubby. (My boyfriend has been sailing a lot so going home on weekends passes my time)

3 Weeks:

Shalya5 weeks: Cute baby!5 weeks:Right in your face!Back to 3 weeks. 3 weeksBack to the packing. I always over pack and I try not to, I really do! But it never works that way. A trip back to Vancouver only warrants one Lululemon bag thrown over my shoulder as I will not lug around a suitcase on the ferry. But a trip to Portland warrants a little carry on and a Lululemon bag. Oh and whatever I decide to throw in the car. So far I have packed 5 shirts or so, white capris cargos, 2 pairs of jeans,  a jean skirt and some gym clothes (in the unlikely event I decide to exercise! Ha! It has been weeks since I went to the gym…) Puma running shoes, heals, and a bathing suit (in the unlikely event I go swimming, don’t think that’s going to happen seeing as the weather will probably prevent this from happening) and my skivvies. Tomorrow I will do my make-up, toiletries, hair products whatever else I use as part of my morning routine. I am sure that I can get away with one bag; seeing as I will probably only where the one pair of jeans, capris pants and a tank top or 2… I am only going for 3 nights. My packing is just as organized as my posts. I pack a little, go to PC to email boyfriend seeing if I need to bring anything dressy, pack some more take laundry out of dryer fold what I want packed, put wet laundry in dryer… it is going to be a long night!
